A very intriguing submerged reality took on the bottom of the seas in Portimão, far from the diving schools in Lisbon , the paper Público reported . Four Navy ships are now the background to the Ocean Revival underwater park and would be the cozy home of several species of snails, octopuses, mackerels and other fish and mollusks. Ships are still a huge attraction for countless sailors from several nations.
1 year after being trashed, under the watchful eye of many dive school instructors in Lisbon and throughout the country, Navy ships - a corvette, ocean patrol, frigate and oceanographic boat - today have the assignment of to host the marine life - fauna and flora - of the region and also to make up a flourishing tourist attraction.
Underwater Park of Portimão welcomes many diving enthusiasts from Lisbon and the whole nation.
Opened by the end of October 2012, the underwater park is situated 30 meters deep, where pontificam dozens of oysters, barnacles, porkfish, sea bream and sea bass. The surrounding fauna and flora are in such a manner in symbiosis with all the ships that it is no longer feasible to differentiate the initial color of the boats. The vessels were organized in such a way as to facilitate the entrance of specialist divers and pupils from diving schools in Lisbon.
It should be recalled that the average time of stay at 30 meters doesn't exceed 40 minutes, which suggests several visits for a full understanding of these vessels. The invention of a complete ecosystem in the area of ships turned into a matter of months. The mussels that were attached to the hooves attracted the octopuses and the sea currents here did the rest.
The four submerged ships currently house dozens of marine algae, fish and shellfish species
Only here in the Zambezi are far over two dozen different species attracted from the larvae which were being shipped from one vessel to another. The underwater park is behaving as an artificial reef, which can help to increase biodiversity in that area. Only 'Oliveira e Carmo' is home to 22 species, including sea bream, porpoise, porpoise and barnacles. And others less known to the public.
But other species have already been seen near the ships, especially moonfish, crow fish, lilies and even little dolphins. Proof that individual does not always affect character in a negative way and that, when interventions have been well arranged and implemented, they can be very powerful and have positive effects in the regions in which they are inserted, whether within the range of a dip in Lisbon or the 30 meters deep, in Portimão, Algarve.
